What can one learn from Leo Tolstoy?

What can one learn from a writer who is regarded as one of the greatest authors of all time?

I recently read “A Confession” by Leo Tolstoy. My goal was to understand the author deeper before diving into his novels. The funny moment is that after reading the book, I decided to postpone reading Leo’s writings.

He wrote a lot, and he was famous worldwide. He had a lot of money, a big house, and a good family. He had everything one man could want but still suffered. Think of it for a minute: before entering his working cabinet, he left his boots without laces; when he went for a walk into the forest, he did not take his shotgun. And he suffered at the peak of his career. Most of the people would dream of being in his place. But Tolstoy could not find the meaning of life and suffered from this.

Money, new iPhone, status, and prestige games, and even family won’t make a person happy:

  1. Money can give financial freedom and a lot of free time.
  2. iPhone can simplify communication.
  3. A social status opens some doors and some closes.
  4. The family provides support and receives your love and warmness.

But what can make one happy and deeply satisfied? Everybody should find his answer.
