We Are Only at the Beginning of Software

Even without coding agents, competition in software would keep growing anyway:
- Software is a growing part of the world economy. And we are still early.
- New generations. People switching careers. More people are joining and will keep joining.
You need to improve your imagination if you think the current world is the best we can do as a human species.
We are only at the beginning of software, and there will be orders of magnitude more software than there is now.
It will be everywhere: running and recovering forests and nature, managing or at least predicting weather better, preventing diseases, resolving arguments in courts, helping to run countries, planning space navigation, building housingā¦
Can you build a house with agents via an API, get all the approvals, and hire robots to execute it?
Software is more fundamental than hardware. It increasingly manages the physical world. The physical world and the hardware around it are secondary to software. You need so much more software to run all that.
Software belongs to the world of ideas. And ideas will be worth more and more, especially as execution becomes cheaper.
There is so much more to build. If you take the next few thousand years of human history, the current age will be the abacus of computing.
If anything, AI only accelerates forces that were already in place.
